1. Listing, live parts, locations — 410.2 to 410.12
- 410.2: all luminaires, lampholders, lighting systems and retrofit kits shall be listed. 410.3(B): reconditioned luminaires, lampholders, ballasts, LED drivers, lamps and retrofit kits not permitted (a luminaire fitted with a retrofit kit is not "reconditioned").
- 410.4: no live parts normally exposed; cleat-type lampholders ≥ 8 ft above the floor may have exposed terminals.
- 410.10(A) wet/damp: water shall not enter wiring compartments; wet locations → luminaire marked suitable for wet locations; damp → marked suitable for wet or damp.
- 410.10(C) commercial cooking hoods: luminaire identified for the hood, vapor-tight, corrosion-resistant smooth surfaces, no wiring exposed within the hood.
- 410.10(D) bathtub and shower areas: no parts of cord-connected, chain-, cable- or cord-suspended luminaires, lighting track, pendants, or paddle fans with light kits within the 3 ft horizontal / 8 ft vertical zone from the top of the tub rim or shower threshold (all-encompassing, including directly over the tub); luminaires within the tub/shower footprint up to 8 ft → marked damp, or wet where subject to shower spray.
- 410.10(F): luminaires in or under roof decking where subject to damage — ≥ 1½ in. from the lowest surface of the decking (exception: metal-corrugated decking covered by ≥ 2 in. of concrete).
- 410.11: combustible material never subjected to more than 90°C (194°F).
- 410.12: lampholders over highly combustible material — unswitched type; unless individually switched, located ≥ 8 ft above the floor or guarded.
