1. Electric signs and outline lighting — Article 600
- Listing (600.2): fixed, mobile or portable signs, section signs, outline lighting, PV-powered signs and retrofit kits are listed and labeled regardless of voltage (field-installed skeleton tubing and outline lighting made of listed luminaires excepted).
- The sign outlet (600.5(A)): each commercial building and each commercial occupancy accessible to pedestrians gets at least one sign outlet at each entrance to each tenant space, on a branch circuit rated at least 20 A that supplies no other load (sign controllers excepted; not required at delivery/service entrances).
- Ratings (600.5(C)): sign branch circuits are continuous loads; neon → not over 30 A; all other signs and outline lighting → not over 20 A.
- Wiring (600.5(D)): the supply terminates in the sign, an enclosure, a box, a conduit body or a panelboard; listed sign enclosures may be pull/junction boxes up to 600 V for adjacent signs, outline lighting and the sign's floodlights; poles may enclose the supply conductors.
- Disconnect (600.6): every sign/outline lighting system/skeleton tubing (and its feeder or branch circuit) is controlled by an externally operable switch or breaker that opens all ungrounded conductors and controls no other load.
