Lesson 02-01 covered the structure of Article 230, the number of services and the 2026 outdoor-disconnect rule. This lesson fills in the sections the Residential Wireman's 16 service items and the Journeyman's 6 knowledge items actually draw from: the clearance numbers, the underground rules, the service-entrance conductor rules, the service head, the equipment sections and the supply-side connection list. 1. Where service conductors may go — 230.5 to 230.10

• 230.5: service conductors supplying one building shall not pass through the interior of another. 230.6 — "outside" a building means: under ≥ 2 in. of concrete beneath the building; in a raceway encased in ≥ 2 in. of concrete or brick; in a 450 Part III vault; in conduit under ≥ 18 in. of earth beneath the building; or in RMC/IMC passing through an eave (not a wall) for the 230.24 clearance.
• 230.7: other conductors (feeders, branch circuits) are not in the same raceway, cable, handhole or underground box as service conductors — except grounding electrode conductors, supply-side bonding jumpers, and load-management control conductors with OCP.
• 230.8: raceways entering from underground are sealed (spare raceways too). 230.9: open conductors 3 ft from openable windows, doors, porches, balconies, ladders, stairs and fire escapes (conductors above the top of a window excepted); the 230.24(B) vertical clearance applies within 3 ft horizontally of platforms; never beneath openings used to move materials. 230.10: no trees as supports.
